Teto-Egen is a Korean internet framework that sorts people by vibe into two axes. The names riff on hormones — 'Teto' from testosterone, 'Egen' from estrogen — but the framework is about style, not biology. Teto types read as direct, driven, and a bit tough; Egen types read as soft, receptive, and emotionally attuned. Crossed with gender presentation, the internet version yields archetypes like the Teto-girl (bold, teasing, first to suggest the plan) and the Egen-boy (gentle, considerate, an excellent listener).
It spread through TikTok, Instagram, and Korean forums around 2024–2025 mostly as a dating-culture meme: which type are you, which type do you fall for, and why do Teto-girls and Egen-boys keep finding each other?
Let's be direct: Teto-Egen is not a scientific model. Hormones do influence behavior, but not in the tidy binary the names imply, and no published research validates these categories. If you want empirically grounded self-knowledge, the Big Five is the tool.
That said, the framework's popularity isn't mysterious. It compresses a real and much-studied pair of dimensions — assertiveness/dominance and warmth/nurturance, which psychology has long modeled as the two axes of interpersonal style — into two memorable words. In that sense Teto-Egen is folk psychology rediscovering the interpersonal circumplex with better branding.
